Mask

Was there much pain
when you fill your lungs with smoke
and you inhaled too much that you cough as if you're dying?

Is there enough life
for you to celebrate with the coming
of the one whom you'll be waiting for years?

You swear to yourself
the last stick would be the last
but then it was not

And in all the drama and the scare
you would find out that it was just a skin ready to be peeled
because inside of you was happiness and love
overflowing on your pores
sweet smelling
butterflies fluttering about

The smoke was set out
and traveled far to be forgotten
for you are new
silken and golden

The pain was a mask for change
you were challenged
and you won
they all ask you in the end
the same question
"was there much pain"


and you will say
yes there is and it is worth it
